Things To Do

Hiking and Walking Trails

Being situated within the protected Banghoek Private Nature Reserve means that there is no shortage of nature trails to explore for keen walkers and hikers alike. From beginners to pros, everyone will find a suitable path to meander. Flowing streams and waterfalls, wildlife and an abundance of fynbos, plus views that will take your breath away, are just some of the things to look forward to as you make your way through the protected reserve on foot.

Mountain Biking

Whether you’re new to offroad biking or you’re a seasoned cyclist, the reserve offers countless trails to traverse, rewarding you with incredible scenery and wildlife interactions when you stop to catch your breath.

Birdwatching

Keen twitchers will be in their element here! Grab our binoculars or bring your own, and see how many local and migratory birds you can tick off your list. From the African Fish Eagle to the Orange Breasted Sunbird, and the Black Harrier to the Jackal Buzzard, you’re unlikely to be disappointed. In fact, you can view and log sightings specific to Banghoek via iNaturalist.

Wildlife Viewing

We may not have the Big Five, but we like to think that our wildlife is even more impressive. From rare sightings of the elusive Cape leopard to possible run-ins with cheetah, and the more likely spottings of klipspringer, grey rhebok, duiker, springbok, zebra and other small mammals and antelope, a short drive through the reserve or a leisurely stroll may present you with more than you bargained for.

Stargazing

Off the beaten track and far, far away from the bright lights of the big city, Banghoek’s night skies are ideal for stargazing. Throw down a blanket, grab some wine and snacks, and spend an evening under the stars, marvelling at the expanse of the universe.

Picnicking

Whether in the comfort of Ohana’s private and serene garden or further afield in the reserve, the novelty of a picnic never wears off – whether young or old. Grab a few blankets, fill a basket with your favourite treats, and enjoy a leisurely meal surrounded by nothing but nature.

Photography

Experienced or budding photographers have no shortage of content to snap while visiting our slice of paradise. The diverse landscape and abundance of fauna and flora (never mind the pink, orange and blue skies at both dawn and dusk) ensure that there is plenty to snap at every turn.

Rest & Relaxation

If we’re honest, this is our number one ‘thing to do’ at Ohana – chill! Play rock, paper, scissors to see who gets to relax in the hammock first; sink into our oversized beanbag on the deck with a book; throw down a towel and enjoy some sun rays in the garden or take a refreshing dip in our natural pool. There are many ways to find your perfect zen here – it’s all up to you.
